Get to know Queen Andrea
Andrea von Bujdoss (AKA "Queen Andrea") is a NYC-based fine artist, muralist, graffiti artist, typographer and graphic designer. A die-hard native New Yorker raised in downtown Manhattan, Andrea has been deeply inspired by the urban landscape from an early age. Her style is consistently marked by a bold use of color, design and advanced typography. As a young teen part of a newer generation of early 1990's graffiti writers, she befriended some of the most prolific old school subway graffiti writers and diligently taught herself the complicated artform of graffiti by consistently practicing her letters and eventually developing her own unique style. The excitement, color, diversity and crazy energy of city life, and especially graffiti, is where Andrea finds her creative inspiration.
Get to know Lady Aiko
AIKO was born and raised in Tokyo before moving to New York City in the mid-90′s. Already creating art since a young age, her art career in NYC began when she started working for Takashi Murakami. She apprenticed in Murakami’s studio in Brooklyn and worked for him until the late 90′s going on to a direct a digital biography on the artist (“Superflat” 1998). AIKO continued to practice her own art and after leaving Murakami’s studio graduated from The New School University where she finished her MFA Media Studies and later met up with two American artists, the three of them would come to establish the group now known as FAILE. Creating work within the collective locally and abroad for a number of years, she moved on and established herself as Lady AIKO in 2006.
Get to know MRS
MRS is an abstract collage artist who was born and raised in The Bronx, New York. As a young painter, she was greatly influenced by graffiti culture. Her work is inspired by graffiti art’s relationship to temporality—an element not always obvious, visible, or identifiable to the spectator. Each layer signifies part of a story about the battle for space, and for ownership of a wall. MRS builds texture through different media such as aerosol and silkscreen. Textured materials are cut up and collaged back together into patterns. Through the use of textile collage, MRS combines art that is often perceived as being masculine, graffiti, with art that is often perceived as being feminine, quilting. The process is a simulation, and the product is an illustration of how the once-recognizable individual tag, word, or shape becomes hidden—sometimes illegible—as it becomes part of the collective image made of anarchic impulses
